Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: 23 July 2026
This policy explains how The Boat Shop (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you use theboat.shop, and how we use cookies. We are the data controller for this personal data.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email and password (stored securely, hashed).
- Listing details — the content, photos and contact details you add to a listing.
- Payment details — handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not see or store your card number.
- Enquiries & messages — anything you send via our enquiry or contact forms.
- Usage data — if you consent to analytics cookies, aggregate information about how the site is used.
How we use it & our lawful bases
- To run your account and publish your listings — performance of a contract.
- To take payment for paid listings — performance of a contract.
- To respond to enquiries and provide support — legitimate interests.
- To measure traffic and our advertising — consent (you can decline; see cookies below).
- To keep the platform secure and prevent fraud — legitimate interests / legal obligation.
Who we share it with
We share data only with providers that help us run the service: Stripe(payments), our hosting provider, and — with your consent — Google (Analytics & Ads). We never sell your personal data. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK/EEA under appropriate safeguards.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
| ms_session | Keeps you logged in | Essential |
| tbs_consent | Remembers your cookie choice | Essential |
| _ga / _gid | Google Analytics — traffic measurement | Analytics (consent) |
| _gcl_* | Google Ads — conversion measurement | Advertising (consent) |
Essential cookies are always on (the site can't work without them). Analytics and advertising cookies only load after you accept them in the cookie banner — you can change your choice any time via “Cookie preferences” in the footer.
How long we keep it
We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active, and order records for as long as required for tax and accounting. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, contact us (below). You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
